Abstract

Abstract: To study the pattern of hematologic changes observed in TB patients, for revealing more characters of TUBERCULOSIS effects on hematopoietic system.Method: After obtaining a written consent from the cases, 2 cc bloods from basilica vein was obtained. This blood was sent to lab for further evaluations such as: HCT, Hb, MCV, MCH, Platelet, diff and ESR. The TUBERCULOSIS Skin Tests were performed for all patients. Results: 218 patients were included in study. There were 64 female (67.4%) and 107 male (87%) patients that suffered from ANEMIA.There was a significant difference regarding the amount of "Rb" in the two sexes. (Pv=0.003) Also the level of Hb was higher in older patients as compared to younger ones (Pv=0.003). Meanwhile Patients with positive PPD test had higher Hb levels (Pv=0.001).Conclusion: Significant hematologic changes occur in process of smear positive pulmonary TB; the most common is normocytic ANEMIA. Rb levels also differ in both the sexes.
