Abstract

Background and objective: Inpatients that need chronic hemodialysis, CENTRAL CATHETER is very important till arterial- venous fistula is induced. Because the risk of INFECTION is high in these patients, the care of these catheter is needed. So, this study was done to effect of Mupirocin ointment to prevention of bacterial colonization.Materials and methods: This study was done in two groups of CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE that need to dialysis with catheter.In one group, Mupirocin and povidin iodine are used and in another group only povidin iodine is used to prevention of colonization. Then, interval skin culthers were gained.The results were compared and P-value less than 0.05 Was important.Results: In eighteen patients, 10 (55.5%) boys and 8 (44.5%) grills with CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE were studied. According to cauterization, 45 cases were studied that in 17 (37.5%) cases Mupirocin and povidin iodine were used and in others (28 cases, 62.2%), only povidin iodine is used for prevention of colonization. Total culthers were 405 times that 61 (56.6%) times of group one and 187 (71.4%) times in second gronp were positive culthers (p=0.003).Staphylococcus epidermis is the most common organism (216, 61.2%) in culthers.Conclusion: According to efficacy of Mupirocin for prevention of colonization, we recommend to use of it for pediatric hemodialysis patients With Catheter.
