Abstract

Giardiasis is a relatively common, worldwide, parasitic disease caused by a protozoan, called Giardia lamblia. Giardiasis is usually asymptomatic but some times can produce acute, subacute and chronic clinical illnesses. The disease can affect any age group. But, is more prevalent in childhood. In this cross-sectional study, prevalence of Giardiasis among primary school students of "NEKA" distric is, evaluated during 1998- 1999. The results are as follows: Data Total NO Yea Total male Female f Giardiasis patients: %male %Female 1998 1271 614(48.3%) 657(51.7%) 247(19.42%) 20.3% 18.87% 1999 824 458(55.58%) 366(44.42%) 191(23.7%) 115(25.1%) 76(20.76%) As personal hygiene and careful hand washing are the corner stones of Giardiasis prevention, regarding high prevalence rate of Giardiasis in this study, we suggest "health education" for both students and their family to help for control of disease among this age group.
