Title

VALIDATION OF HEALTH UTILITY INDEX QUESTIONNAIRE IN PATIENTS WITH BRAIN TUMOR

Pages

  9-15

Abstract

The purpose of this methodologic study was to determine validity of self reported HUI questionnaires in 77 patients with brain tumor and a reference group of 160 healthy people. The HUI is a multiattribute perferenced - based system for assessing HRQOL. The system consist of 8 attributes: vision, hearing, speech, mobility, dexerity, emotion, cognition and pain. Each attribute contains 5 or 6 defined levels, from best(1) to the lowerst state of health(5 or 6). Face validity was obtained through punctuating and correcting the Items, TIle content validity was obtained using the approach suggested by wiersema and jures.According to the findings, the global mean utility score and the single attribute utility score for case group were significantIy lower than the reference group(P<0.001) that indicated construct validity. Correlatiog between KPS as a standard tool and HUI was significant (Pearsons r=0.909) and the agreement between them in estimatiog the health status was moderate to high with K=0.703, that reveals concurrent validity. In general validity of HUI was confirmed and the use of it offers numerous adventages and can be applied in the routine clinical care of brain tumor patients.
