Abstract

World conditions in the present era require the unity of cultures and societies throughout the world. A need for having correspondence between different civilizations and finding a common language (the innate language) seems to be a must if such a communication is to take place. The present research started with hopes for finding such a language by means of inspecting and comparing the literature of the world, specially the mystic literature. The motif of HOMECOMING was chosen as the basis for the study. This topic was studied in the works of Molavi in Persian, Ibn-e Arabi in Arabic, Emerson (American poet) and Blake (British poet) in English, Vigny in French, and Narekatsi in Armenian. Some subtopics such as the origin of man, SEPARATION from the origin and the distress of SEPARATION, love, desire for returning home, excursion to the man's internal world, the SPIRITUAL JOURNEY, and the stages of development such as repentance, patience, gratitude, downswing and upswing in the circle of existence, the stage of DEATH and REUNION after DEATH were studied very carefully. Then in a contrastive study, the works of the above people were compared. The results showed that despite differences regarding their cultures, religions, and languages, these people have astonishing similarities which show the profound links these people have regarding their ways of thinking and philosophy. Obviously there are some differences between the Eastern and the Western outlooks regarding the moral elevation of man.
