Abstract

 Having reviewed the theoretical perspectives of the factors related to GENDER segmentation in the labour market, the objective of this article is to study the labour market of Iran. Using the data of the Statistical Center of Iran within the framework of an institutional economy, this article deals with the evaluation of the performance of the Third Development Plan and reforms in line with the improvement of the status of women in the labour market in Iran. It also considers the GENDER discrimination of the labor market as a result of two factors: First the factors affecting women prior entering into the labour makret , i.e. those factors that have directed them towards fields of study and specific technical and professional skills, have consequently caused GENDER differences in human capitals. Second, the factors of the labour market that have attracted women to secondary economic sectors, have resulted in GENDER differences. Therefore this market has been divided along GENDER lines and the distribution of womens EMPLOYMENT is skewed. With the process of development and rising of confidence and merits of individuals as the basis of labour division, the research believes that the structure of decision-making will be changed in the family and labour market, and GENDER inequality will be reduced.
