Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is a prevalent disease with poor prognosis. Early detection and management is of utmost importance in its prognosis. FNA is an effective diagnostic approach, so the present study was achieved in Shohada- Tajrish hospital in 1998-2000, to determine the efficacy of FNA. Materials and methods: 299 females with palpable BREAST MASS had entered this clinical trial. All of them had undergone standard FNA technique and were compared with those who have indications for BIOPSY. Finally, NPV and PPV of FNA technique were determined. Results: Excluding 119 patients, 110 females with the mean age of 48.9±10.4 years had been studied. PPV and NPV were reported 100% and 96.3%, respectively. Conclusion: FNA is an effective technique in diagnosis of BREAST MASS. It is highly recommended as the first diagnostic approach.
