Abstract

LARYNX CANCER comprises 2-5% cases of cancer and after cancer of buccal cavity and oropharynx, is the most common malignant cancer of the head and neck regions. There is a definite relationship between its occurrence and cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking, and for this reason it shows least occurrence among religious communities. Considering the available references, the most common form of this cancer is SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA. It also occurs more commonly in males and at life decades greater than 6. The site of involvement varies in different countries, for instance in Yugoslavia the most common site of involvement is suproglottic area, but in other countries glottic area is more commonly involved. In this research study, 117 patients with LARYNX CANCER were evaluated in otolaryngology and head and neck surgical departments of Loghmanoddoleh hospital from 1991 to 1998. The results showed that 92.3% of patients were male and 7.7% of them were female. In addition, 91.45% of cases had SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA and in 66.66% of cases, glottic region was involved.
