Title

AN INVITRO EVALUATION OF FRACTURE RESISTANCE OF ENDODONTICALLY TREATED TEETH WITH DIFFERENT RESTORATIVE TECHNIQUES (RESEARCH)

Pages

  22-33

Abstract

Restoration of endodontically treated teeth is necessary for many reasons such as: Preservation of remaining tooth structure, prevention of coronal leakage, function & esthetics. Due to limitation of tooth structure, restoration is difficult and remnant tooth structure is unable to retained restorative material. Among different restorative methods, it seems that post & core system have better success. RESTORATION OF ENDODONTICALLY TREATED TEETH with full crown coverage can increase the strenght of these teeth. But existence of some problem with full crown coverage and the relative high expense of this therapy suggest other method for restoration of such teeth. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compressive strenght of endodontically treated teeth that restored with and without prefabricated post, and evaluation the effect of adhesive cements. The following results were achieved: untreated teeth (intact) have highest strength whereas teeth with endodontically treated teeth and no restoration have lowest strength. The difference between experimental groups (restored) with & without post & cemented with adhesive and non adhesive cement are not statistically significant. Therefore prefect restoration has been achieved from endodontic treatment and prefabricated post has been pointed only for retention of restorative material but not for the increase of strength of teeth.
