Abstract

In Orthodontic diagnosis and its treatment decision making analysis of casts are important. In IRAN, there are few studies for finding normatic data (Normal Size) of maxillary arch dimensions. This research was performed for measuring KORKHOUS INDEX in Tehran-Medical Sciences students with cl I normal maxillary occlusion.This Index consider the ratio of tooth ARCH WIDTH, and PALATAL DEPTH which can use by determining necessary expansion in persons with posterior crossbite. In our study 67 individuals (45 boys and 22 girls) were randomly selected. The upper jaw algynate impressions were provided. The palate depth, posterior ARCH WIDTH and anoterior ARCH LENGTH were measured by using professor Korkhous method. Statistical results show the following features:1. This Index was 39.93, 39.66,39.83 in boys, girls and all individuals, respectively.2. Mean size of palate depth and anterior length, Posterior arch posterior width, anterior arch and distance between premolars and canines is determined.3. There was no significant difference between length to The width of dental arch with KORKHOUS INDEX so the archial shape did not have significant effect on KORKHOUS INDEX. Because we obtain lower mean amount than korkhous research, The result of our research demonstration that the ratio of intermolar width to PALATAL DEPTH is lower in Iranian race.
