Title

IMPLICIT THEORIES OF INTELLIGENCE AND SELF-EFFICACY BELIEFS: A COMPARISON BY GENDER AND FIELD OF STUDY

Abstract

 In order to explore the relationship between IMPLICIT THEORIES OF INTELLIGENCE and self -efficacy beliefs, 400 college students (160 males, 240 females) who were studying in the field of math and human sciences were chosen by cluster sampling. For evaluating IMPLICIT THEORIES OF INTELLIGENCE a researcher made questionnaire, for measuring general self-efficacy schwarzer and Jerusalem general self-efficacy scale 2000) and for academic self-efficacy, Bandura (2000) questionnaire were used. The results showed that IMPLICIT THEORIES OF INTELLIGENCE predict self-efficacy (general and academic beliefs).There was no sex differences in implicit theory of intelligence but this difference was observed according to the field of study. Female students in comparison with male students had higher general self efficacy. There was a difference between self-efficacy of math and human sciences students.
