POSTER PRESENTATIONS: P-50: EFFECT OF GRAPE SEED PROANTHOCYANIDIN EXTRACT ON STRESS OXIDATIVE OF DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY IN RATS

Abstract

 Objective: This study examined the effect of grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) on lipid peroxidation content and activities key ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES: Catalase (CAT), Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), and Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) in streptozotocin-induced diabetic nephropathic rats.Materials and Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: control, diabetic, DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY, DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY who’s received GSPE 500 mg/kg for 6 week. At the first 24- hour urinary albumin excretion (UAE) was studied after two weeks the induction of diabetes then each week until the end of the experimental period in all of groups. Lipid peroxidation content and activities of CAT, SOD and GPx were measured in kidney homogenate supernatants.Results: UAE in DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY group were significantly higher than in control and diabetic groups. An increase in lipid peroxidation content and decrease in CAT, SOD and GPx activities in kidney of DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY and diabetic rats were observed. The GSPE administration did not affect body weight. The GSPE significantly decreased lipid peroxidation and augmented the activities of ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES studied in kidney of DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY rats as well as reduced UAE, decreased kidney weight.
