Abstract

HYPERTENSION is one of the main CVD risk factors. Beta-blockers and Thiazides have been studied as the first applied drugs in the treatment of HYPERTENSION because of their role in decreasing rate of morbidity and mortality due to CVDs.This study aimed to compare IRANian and non-Iranian ATENOLOL tablets as the more prevalent beta-blockers, which are increasingly recommended to hypertensive patients in Isfahan. This semi-experimental Randomization double-blind study was done on with and without (n= 100 every group) taking antihypertensive drugs. Hypertensive patients (140<SBP<100 & 90<DBP<100) of Isfahanak town. After 3 weeks washout period patients were randomly divided in two groups: one group take 50 mg IRANian ATENOLOL from Daro-Pakhsh company (case) and 50mg another group non-Iranian ATENOLOL from Cipla company (control) tablet for 3 months. They were studied after the 3 weeks washout without therapy with Anti-HYPERTENSION but they were under the care, and if 160>SBP≥140, 100>DBP≥90 they were include in our study. Collected data were analyzed by SPSS software with t-student test and chi-square test, if p.value <0.05 is significant. The mean of decreasing of SBP after first, secondary & third months of intervention was lower in patients that take IRANian ATENOLOL and control the other group significantly. Also the mean of DBP change in case and control groups was -12.92±92, -7.39±8.07 (first month), -12.6±8.12, -7.87±7.5 (second month) and -13.2±8.5, -8.1±8.8 respectively that was significantly different only at 3rd month. There was no significant in hart rate between groups in this study. Both types of ATENOLOL decreased BP in hypertesive patients but non IRANian ATENOLOL are more effective that IRANian type to decrease SBP while IRANian ATENOLOL are more effective to decrease DBP.
