Abstract

 Background and aims: Silica Nanoparticles are biodegradable novel Drug delivery systems and their biodegradation in vivo is affected by their particle size and their surface properties and for this reasons they are suitable for drug conjugation and biomedical applications. The aim of the present study were optimization of the particle size and zeta potential, investigation of the effect of various parameters and finally obtain equations for the estimation of the particle size and zeta potential in synthesis of functionalized silica Nanoparticles. Methods: The NH2 functionalized silica Nanoparticles were synthesized by simultaneous hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate and )3-aminopropyl( triethoxysilan in the presence of ammonium hydroxide and ethanol by temperature magnetic stirring method and the properties of particle size and zeta potential were studied. The effective parameters were determined by an irregular factorial design. The synthesis of the Nanoparticles was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Results: The amount of ammonium hydroxide and ethanol had a significant effect on the size and zeta potential of Nanoparticles (P<0. 05). Reduction of ammonium hydroxide and ethanol increase dicreases significantly the particle size. Also, by increasing ammonium hydroxide and decreasing ethanol, the absolute magnitude of zeta potential increased significantly. Conclusion: Irregular factorial design is a suitable method for optimization of synthesis of modified silica Nanoparticles.
