Abstract

There are many psychologic and physiologic changes in pregnancy and postpartum periods that sometimes accompanied with pathologic changes like mood disorders. Also, it is necessary for medical teams, specially nurses and midwives, to identify the patients and their families who have a predisposition for postpartum psychiatric disorders and to guide them through this period. To assess the prevalence and PREDISPOSING FACTORS of postpartum depression, an analytical-descriptive and cross-sectional study was performed on 300 women in the third trimester of their pregnancy and continued to the first 6 weeks after the labor. The data was collected through interview and clinical assessment, using the Beck Depression Inventory, the questioner of the PREDISPOSING FACTORS and a clinical interview checklist. The results showed that the prevalence of postpartum depression was 21.3% and there was a significant correlation between postpartum depression and personal, psychological and socioeconomic PREDISPOSING FACTORS.
