Abstract

Beihaghi History is one of the perennial works which has survived over years up to the present time. After all these long years and experiencing many ups and down, the vividness of this prose is still brilliant and flowing as if Beihaghi had got an indelible ink. Even our contemporary authors have appreciated his writing fluency. However, his prose has not been described, illustrated and investigated adequately yet. What makes Beihaghi History distinct is its NARRATION manner which differs dramatically from historical NARRATION of his contemporary historians. Undoubtedly, it is the upmost factor making Beihaghi History an influential literary work which involves reader in narrative structure and linguistic as well as metalinguistic elements. The present article attempts to investigate structural and linguistic features of this invaluable work and through taking a glance at “Speech Action Theory” it aims to clarify roles of poems and narratives Beihaghi added to his history. Examination and dissection carried out into standpoints and opinions possessed by previous researchers reveal a relationship between the structure of a historical text, mental and thought structure of the intended historian and the power structures of his age.
