Abstract

Objective: Labor is a painful and non-durable process that leads to the most beautiful incident in life. Analgesics, stress, and bad psychological status have destructive effects on mother and her fetus health.EMOTIONAL SUPPORT can reduce stress and pain of labor. Our purpose of this study was evaluation of EMOTIONAL SUPPORTs effects on LABOR DURATION.Materials and Methods: In a randomized clinical trial we divide 80 normal married PRIMIGRAVIDA to two 40 cases groups. One group was supported emotionally and the other group received routine prenatal care.Results: Mean of LABOR DURATION in EMOTIONAL SUPPORT group was 6.25 hrs (SD=1.49 hrs) and in other group M=9.36 hrs and SD=I.24hrs. Nationality (Iranian, Afghan), age, education level and prenatal care (yes or no) have no statistical difference between two groups, but wanted or unwanted pregnancy was statistically different in two groups (p<0.05). In unwanted pregnant women, EMOTIONAL SUPPORT led to 4.33 hrs reduction in LABOR DURATION and in wanted pregnant this measure was 3.3 hrs.Conclusion: EMOTIONAL SUPPORT during labor decreased LABOR DURATION. Therefore this method as a low cost, ethical and side effect free technique is advised.
