Abstract

Objective: ACARDIA ACEPHALUS fetus is observed in MULTIPLE PREGNANCIES. This fetal anomaly is caused by twin transfusion syndrome in monozygotic MULTIPLE PREGNANCIES. The more the vascular anastomosis in fetuses, the more severe will be the illness and the fetal anomalies. In this syndrome one fetus has the role of pumping and the second one has the role of receiver. The pumping fetus may be affected by heart failure and the receiving fetus may be affected by malformations such as ACARDIA and ACEPHALUS. Twin ACARDIA is a rare complication in MULTIPLE PREGNANCIES, which occurs in one percent of monozygotic twin pregnancy or about I case in 35,000 births. In this report 1 case of ACARDIA ACEPHALUS fetus is introduced which was born in twin pregnancy to a 23 old woman with 24 week gestational age and definitely possesses the signs of a ACARDIA ACEPHALUS fetus.
