A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE IMPACT OF COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL METHODS AND MOOD INDUCTION PROCEDURES ON INCREASING HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENT'S HAPPINESS

Abstract

 The present study sought to compare the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral methods including the "Fordyce's HAPPINESS method" and "lewinsohon's social skills instruction" with the two mood induction methods, ti.e "Positive mantal imagery" and recalling positive statements" on increasing the HAPPINESS of the first grade students in Isfahan high school. A total of 125 students were randomly selected and later were divided into five groups (N= 25). They were randomly assigned to four experimental and one control groups. The intervention methods were "Fordyce's HAPPINESS method", "social skills instruction", "positive mental imagery" and "recalling positive sentences". The Oxford's HAPPINESS questionnaire was chosen as research instrument. Results: The analysis of varians with repetitive measures showed a significant correlation between the control and experimental groups in increasing HAPPINESS. The follow up tukey test also indicated that the 135 cognitive-behavioral methods, specially "the social instruction" were more effective and efficient than mood induction procedures.
