Abstract

 This investigation examines the relationship between family power structure and marital satisfaction among employed and unemployed married women in Tehran. The sample consisted of 200 women (100 employed and 100 unemployed) which were randomly allocated to the groups. Two questionnaire were used in this study including of ENRICH to explore marital satisfaction, and a 41 item scale which was builded under the guidance of instructors of the research and were measured family power structure. Descriptive statistics, one way ANOV A, Sheffe follow up test, Spearman correlation coefficient and pearson correlation coefficient were used to process the data. It was argued that there is a relationship between family power structure and (a) marital satisfaction among women (b) husband education (c) wife education (d) duration of conjugal life (e) husbands income (t) wifes income (g) husband participation in household labor, and it was also hypothesized that there is a difference between family power structure among dual-career families and families in which the wife is unemployed. The results show that there is a relationship between family power structure with (a) marital satisfaction in women (b) husband education. and the hypothesis which emphasized on the difference between family power structure among dual-career families and the families in which the wife is unemployed was backed up. The relationship between family power structure with (a) wife education (b) duration of conjugal life (c) husbands income (d) wifes income (e) husband participation in household labor was not confirmed due to the insignificance of differences
