Abstract

Background and Objectives: SEXUAL MASTURBATION is a sexual deviation that is more common than other sexual deviations and leads to mental and physical problems. When someone feels compulsion to do masturbation, it is a kind of obsessive masturbating. The aim of this study was to examine the Correlation between obsession compulsion, IMPULSIVITY, SPIRITUAL HEALTH, SELF-ESTEEM, and SEXUAL MASTURBATION in STUDENTS of Shahid Chamran University of AHWAZ in 2016.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, 285 STUDENTS were selected using cluster random sampling. Five questionnaires regarding obsessive-compulsive inventory, IMPULSIVITY, SPIRITUAL HEALTH, SELF-ESTEEM, and a researcher made questionnaire of SEXUAL MASTURBATION were used as the means of data collection. The data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and multiple linear regressions analysis. Results: The results of the study revealed that there was a significant positive correlation between the obsession compulsion (r= 0.39), IMPULSIVITY (r= 0.23), and SEXUAL MASTURBATION (p<0.001). Also, a significant negative relationship was obtained between SPIRITUAL HEALTH (r= -0.39), SELF-ESTEEM (r= -0.25), and SEXUAL MASTURBATION (p<0.001). Regression coefficients for linear combination of OBSESSION-COMPULSION, IMPULSIVITY, SPIRITUAL HEALTH, SELF-ESTEEM, and sex masturbation was significant at the level less than 0.001. The results showed that SPIRITUAL HEALTH (b= -0.31) and OBSESSION-COMPULSION (b= 0.30) had the most importance in explaining the variance of SEXUAL MASTURBATION (R2=27%) (p<0.001).Conclusion: It seems that OBSESSION-COMPULSION, IMPULSIVITY, SPIRITUAL HEALTH, and SELF-ESTEEM are related to the STUDENTS’ level of SEXUAL MASTURBATION. Therefore, it is suggested that therapists and counselors in order to treat and reduce the amount of SEXUAL MASTURBATION of individuals, have to pay attention to these factors in their agenda.
