Abstract

INTRODUCTION: SCAPHOID FRACTURE is the most common fracture in WRIST and carpal bone next to distal radius fracture. This study was done in 1999-2000 to determin the rate of SCAPHOID FRACTURE in patients with WRIST TRUMA. MATERIALS & METHODS: This study was descriptive and the population under study included all patients who referred to emergency department or hospital clinic after falling down or accident with pain and tenderness in WRIST. Data was analyzed by EPI6 software and descriptive statistic.RESULTS: Sex distribution of the patients was not the same, of 100 cases who studied 84 percent was male and 16 percent was female. The age of 62% of patients was between 15-25, 32% between 25-40 and 6% were over 40. Exercise activities and falling were the main causes of disease (58%). In 42% the cause of TRUMA was driving accident. The fracture diagnosis was 8% in the first admission but increased to 13% after radiography and bone scan.CONCLUSION: With respect to the fact that MRI and bone scan is not always available, it is impossible to do these studies for all people with WRIST TRUMA, pain and tenderness in snaf box, so, continious patient follow up is a simple, economic, and reasonable method.
