Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Pregnancy diabetes is carbohydrate intolerance with different degree of severity that begins at the time of pregnancy or is diagnosed for the first time during that time.MATERIALS & METHODS: The popultation under study consisted of 170 PREGNANT WOMEN with pregnancy diabetes and 250 PREGNANT WOMEN without pregnancy diabetes as control group. Data was collected from patient documents and was recorded in check list.Analyse of data was done by SPSS win software, x2 , ficher and t-test. RESULTS: The results of this study showed significant relation between pregnancy diabetes, obesity, patient age, history of abortion, history of stillbirth, INFERTILITY, family history of diabetes and hypertension. The above mentioned factors are important risk factors of pregnancy diabetes in this region. This study didn`t show any significant relation between pregnancy diabetes with the number of pregnancies, history of child birth, congenital abnormalities and smoking. CONCLUSION: With respect to the results of this study, obesity, patient age, history of abortion, history of stillbirth, family history of diabetes, hypertension and INFERTILITY are main risk factors of pregnancy diabetes in this region (In other studies, INFERTILITY history hasn`t been reported as a risk factor of pregnancy diabetes). By knowing these factors and paying attention to them at the time of pregnancy, it is possible to diagnose those who are at risk and act properly.
