Abstract

Mahmoud Hosseini, Monshi Jami, the historian of the early Durrani dynasty, played an essential role in recording the historical events of this crucial period in Afghanistan by writing the book Mustatab Tarikh Ahmad Shahi. Numerous references and adaptations of his historical data show that Ahmad Shahi's history was an influential book. The main issue in the present study is what insight and method Mahmoud Hosseini had in his work. The research findings show that this historian has used systematic methods and has a fluent and unpretentious style in terms of historiographical method and has based his intellectual system on the foundations of monarchism, sharia, and providence. Mahmoud Hosseini's work has some shortcomings; finally, it is a detailed and valuable history with unique data that later historians have to refer. Direct observations, accuracy, detail, and comprehensiveness have transformed the book from a person-centered monograph to regional Historiography spanning vast areas from eastern Iran to western India and from the Oxus to the Arabian Sea.
