Abstract

SEIZURE is the most common neurological disorder in children and an important sign of CNS diseases which needs to be evaluated by diagnostic measures including brain CT-SCAN. This study evaluates the CT- scan findings in children with SEIZURE disorders. In this descriptive study, EEG and brain CT- scans were performed in 107 patients in the pediatric age group with confirmed SEIZURE disorders at Kashan Medical Centers. History, neurological exams and CT- findings were recorded and analyzed with appropriate methods. Results of this study showed that in 46 cases (43%) CT-SCAN findings were abnormal. The most common abnormality in the CT-SCAN was brain atrophy (71.7% of abnormal cases and 30.8% of total cases). CT-SCAN of brain was abnormal in 72% of under one-year-old children, 46.4% of 1.5 years-old and 27.8% of 5-15 year-olds. CT-SCAN findings were abnormal in children with mental retardation (88.8%) and patients with motor abnormalities(85.7%). The most common abnormal CT- scan finding of children with SEIZURE disorders was brain atrophy. In epileptic children with mental retardation, motor disorders and early convulsion onset, CT-SCAN abnormalities were more common.
