Abstract

This study was carried out in Gha’em Hospital in Mashad, Iran for six months in 2000. From among 150 women referring to the Obstetrics Department, 70 cases had TOCOLYTIC contraindications. However, 80 other cases with no such contraindications were divided into 2 groups: the first group received MAGNESIUM SULFATE and the second group had expectant management. The collected data were put into statistical amalysis usiug x2 analysis and multivariable logistic regression. 46.3% were primiparous. The mean age was 24.3±5. MAGNESIUM SULFATE was observed to be successful in the suppression of PRETERM LABOR in PPROM. However, it was not effective for the method of delivery. No significant relationship was found between gestational age and results of TOCOLYTIC management; infusion of MgSO4 had no effects on the on the outcome of the newborn of mothers. It was finally concluded that TOCOLYTIC management; was successful in the suppression of PRETERM LABOR in PPROM with no morbidity of mothers and the fetus.
