Abstract

Background and purpose: About 50% of women experience PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA with no evidence of primary pelvic disease. Current drugs for the treatment of PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA had contraindication as for MEFENAMIC ACID and CARUMCARVI in primary dysmenrrhea. Materials and Methods: This research was a prospective randomized clinical trial. The cases were 500 high school students (14 - 18 years) with PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA randomly allocated into five groups with 100 cases in each group. Group I took one carcumcarvi cap carumcarve bid, Group IV placebo cap tid and group V one MEFENAMIC ACID cap tid. All of these groups were evaluated for 1-3 days in two cycles. Results: There was significant difference in pain relief between placebo group and other groups. There was a significant difference between group 3 with other groups of CARUMCARVI and MEFENAMIC ACID group, and also between group I and group II and MEFENAMIC ACID. Conclusion: Use of 2 caps of CARUMCARVI tid is more effective than the other groups of CARUMCARVI and there was not significant difference in pain relief between group II and MEFENAMIC ACID group.
