Abstract

Despite the wide use of antiemetic drugs, VOMITING is still one of the most prevalent side - effects of CHEMOTHERAPY, so it is necessary to find ways to diminish these side -effects. The present quasi – experimental study aimed at determining the effect of semi-upright position on NAUSEA and VOMITING in CANCER patients who were under CHEMOTHERAPY in Mashhad Omid Hospital in 1378. In this study 91 CANCER patients were selected on the base of purpose and in a CHEMOTHERAPY period of two days they were Studied in horizontal and semi-upright positions randomly. The results showed that the incidence of NAUSEA in semi-upright and horizontal position was, respectively, (48.4%) and (64.8%) and mean NAUSEA intensity was 11.2 and 21.2 respectively, and mean duration of NAUSEA was, respectively2.5 and 5.3 min., and mean intensity of VOMITING was, respectively0.11 and 0.57 times. The results of paired t-test indicated a significant difference between the two semi-upright and horizontal positions.
