Abstract

The purpose of this article is to examine the role of education in generating GENDER inequalities. Toward this aim, initially, the theories related to GENDER inequalities are reviewed. The views of a number of sociologists on the role of school as the dual agent of both constancy and change are then reiterated. Evidence is given as to how the school plays this complementary, if not contradictory, role. Finally, looking at the Iranian educational system, ways of preventing the regeneration of inequality are suggested.
