Abstract

Persian speakers have a tendency to make acronyms that look like ordinary words. This tendency is due to the fact that learning acronyms is much easier than learning whole words. Persian speakers also tend to avoid making acronyms that have a taboo meaning. One of the problems facing Persian script is that Persian does not use letters to represent short vowels. As a result the pronunciation of acronyms is often arbitrary. This happens when speakers arbitrarily place a vowel between two consonants. The writer shows how these tendencies are found in the acronyms made by the Academy.
