Abstract

In a line from Ferdowsī's The Shahnameh, the name of the mythical creature Kondro/ Kandro, has based on a popular understanding, been interpreted as meaning ''walking slowly". Based on this literal reading, scholars of The Shahnameh, paying no attention to the mythical origin of the word, have recorded it as Kondro, literally ''walking slowly". In this paper, the writer presents evidence to the contrary, showing that Ferdowsī had no such reading of the word.
