Abstract

Abū Tammām Ṭā ī is among the most celebrated poets of the Abbasid era, his poetry ranking high in Arabic literature. Persian words, which had already begun to enter Arabic from the pre- Islamic period, reached its peak in the Abbasid era. In this period, a considerable number of Persian words were borrowed into Arabic for the first time. In this paper, the writer identifies and discusses the Persian words found in the divan of Abū Tammām Ṭā'ī, some of which have also been used by the poets of later generations.
