Abstract

Tamīz, or object complement, is a frequently used structure in Persian. This paper maintains that it is a verb argument used with special verbs which need direct object and object complement. With some verbs, Tamīz functions as an adjective, with others as a noun. It could be a noun or adjective phrase and an enclitic could be used after it to indicate emphasis. It is argued that Tamīz always presents new information and that the accompanying direct object always appears with rā.
