SURVEY OF EPIDEMIOLOGY AND ETHIOLOGY OF SUICIDAL ATTEMT AND RELATION TO SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS IN THE ADMINSTRATED EMERGENCY UNIT CENTRAL HOSPITAL OF NEISHABUR IN 2003

Abstract

 Introduction: Suicide is a death it's caused by oneself. The researcher’s findings show that in each 43 seconds of time there is one attempted suicide, and one death of suicide in per 400 seconds. Suicide is one of society’s problems, which occurs in our country. In Iran, international reports estimate there are 9 deaths per 100/000 persons, and also 1% of total deaths are caused with suicide.Methods and materials: During 6 moons, all persons who had attempted suicide were interviewed based on a questionaire, and data was analized by SPSS.Results: In 207 cases of SUICIDAL ATTEMPTS, the research findings showed 69.1% were female, 62.8% urban, and 54% were married. Highest rate of suicide was in age group 16-25 years. 52.2% were primary school and (25.6%) were high school. Most jobs of women were housekeeper (31.9%), or unemployed 25.6%.The most types of suicide in our study were drugs or tablets (77.8%) and poisoning (13%). The most ETHIOLOGY of suicide was different between wife and family (27.1%), treatend others (17.4%).The low ETHIOLOGY  of suicide was fall of graduation (0.5% ) and physical abused (0.1%).Most cases of SUICIDAL ATTEMPTS were in the afternoon.Conclusion: Attempts at suicide by a variety of methods are problems in our society. Therfore all managers must be attentiue and considerate about recognizing risk factors of suicide and preventing them.
