Abstract

To perform the study, 71 students of 6-18 years old were selected by chance among 11 exceptional education centers in 2001. By bio -chemical and hematologic methods, 6-8 cc of the samples' blood was tested. Ferritin was applied as IRON DEFICIENCY indicator while SI. , TIBC. and TC. were used as iron excess indicators. The relation between malnutrition and body iron was considered through applying indicators of age and height.The findings showed that the students' iron deposits had been emptied out, while there was no iron excess one. In spite of insignificant difference, FERITININ density of the students' serums with malnutrition was lower than that of the healthy ones. Finally, to prevent the aenemia among such groups of students, a concentration assessment of serum FERITININ as a screentest is recommended.
