Abstract

Introduction: Cerebrovascular accidents involve a high population of diabetic patients. Recognizing risk factors is the best step for prevention of CVA occurance. This survy was done to detect the CVA risk factors in type 2 diabetic patients at short term.Materials & Methods: This descriptivecrossectional study was performed on 240 type 2 diabet mellitus patients who refered to diabet investigation centers of Emam Reza (PBUH) and 17 Shahrivar hospitals via random selection in 2009. Investigation instrument was standard questionnaire with 17 questions that consisted risk factors and completed directly by survey assistance. Its reality and reliability was acquired through faculty members approval and test-re-test respectively. Then with regard to age and accuired squre of samples, the risk degree was determined in three levels: low, moderate, and high. After overall data collection, analyzes was done with SPSS v.16 software and descriptive and analytic statistics (Chi-Square test). The significant level was p<0.05.Findings: Hyperlipedimia (177 cases 73.8%) history of hypertention (112cases 946.7%) and BMI³30 (105 cases 43.8%) were the most common risk factors. Alcohol consumption (2 cases 0.08%). report of carotid stenosis (41 cases 1.7%), tobacco and opium consumption (5 cases 2.1% were the less common factors.(Discussion & Conclusion: Findings of this study showed that risk factors of CVA in type 2 diabetic patients was high. Considering its high frequency of side effects, education and referring susceptible people to high level centers sounds necessary.
