Abstract

The Qara-aghaj hard rock titanium deposit is located in the 36 Km at the North-West of Euromieh, Iran. The exploration studies show an estimated reserve of 209 Mt. with an average grade of 8.5% TiO2. The mineralogical studies indicated that the ore consists mainly of the ILMENITE, MAGNETITE and silicate minerals such as pyroxene, olivine, plagioclase and some secondary minerals. The ILMENITE is mainly of granules form but some lamellae of the ILMENITE are found inside the MAGNETITE. The liberation degree for the face and borehole samples is determined 150 and 105 microns respectively.The heavy liquid tests using a Clerici solution (SG=4) indicated that a bulk concentrate of the ILMENITE and MAGNETITE containing up 32% TiO2 and a recovery of 88.3% is obtained. The combination of heavy liquid and low intensity-wet magnetic separator (LIWMS) presents an ILMENITE concentrate containing 43.5% TiO2 with a 61% recovery. An ILMENITE concentrate grading 44.5% TiO2 and about 45% recovery is obtained by the combination of shaking table and LIWMS. So, the combination of shaking tables and LIWMS is suggested for concentration of Qara-aghaj TITANIUM ORE.
