Abstract

The present paper is concerned with some traditions indicating the ALTERATION OF THE HOLY QURAN. These traditions, found in old Shiite haith- and tafsir-oriented texts, have been ascribed to infallible Imams, peace be upon them.Utilizing these traditions as an exegetical explanation for understanding the verses of the Holy Quran, SHAYKH TUSI rejects the doctrine of ALTERATION OF THE HOLY QURAN explicitly for the first time in his tafsir. SHAYKH TUSI's method of utilizing these traditions in Tafsir al-Tibyan provoked his followers (like Tabarsi) to mention these traditions along side with traditions concerning the different reading which have been attributed to infallible Imams and in line with other readings of mashhur and shadh readers.
