THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-CONCEPT AND ACADEMIC PROGRESS IN FEMALE STUDENTS IN YAZD, 1392

Abstract

 THIS STUDY TRIES TO INVESTIGATE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-CONCEPT AND ACADEMIC PROGRESS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. THIS STUDY AIMS AT THE EFFECT OF SELF-CONCEPT ON ACADEMIC PROGRESS AND PRESENTING SOLUTIONS FOR THE SCHOOLS, PARENT-TEACHER ASSEMBLIES AND FAMILIES IN ORDER TO IMPROVE POSITIVE SELF-CONCEPT IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS. THIS IS A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY IN WHICH 157 FEMALE STUDENTS WERE SELECTED FROM DISTRICT 1 SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN YAZD USING RANDOM CLUSTER MULTI-STAGE SAMPLING. STUDENTS' SELF-CONCEPT WAS EVALUATED USING ROGERS SELF-CONCEPT QUESTIONNAIRE, AND PREVIOUS YEAR GRADE POINT AVERAGE WAS CONSIDERED AS THE VARIABLE OF ACADEMIC PROGRESS. DATA WERE ANALYZED USING PEARSON CORRELATION, VARIANCE ANALYSIS AND ONE SAMPLE T-TEST. ACCORDING TO THE FINDINGS OF THIS STUDY AS ACADEMIC PROGRESS RISES, STUDENT'S SELF-CONCEPT INCREASES AS WELL. GRADE POINT AVERAGE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER IN HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS COMPARED TO ART SCHOOLS. THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN SELF-CONCEPT BETWEEN THE HIGH-SCHOOL AND ART SCHOOL STUDENTS. STUDENTS' AGE AND PARENTS' EDUCATION WERE NOT RELATED TO THEIR SELF-CONCEPT.THE RESULTS OF THIS STUDY SHOWED A SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE STUDENTS' SELF-CONCEPT AND ACADEMIC PROGRESS. IN GENERAL, THE SELF-CONCEPT OF FEMALE STUDENTS IN DISTRICT 1 SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF YAZD WAS FOUND TO BE POOR. EDUCATION AND TRAINING OFFICIALS ALONG WITH PUBLIC MEDIA ARE SUPPOSED TO DESIGN AND APPLY PLANS TO IMPROVE THE YOUTH SELF-CONCEPT.
