Abstract

 SCHIFF BASES FORM AN IMPORTANT CLASS OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES. DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC SCHIFF BASES IS NOW ATTRACTING THE ATTENTION OF CHEMISTS AND MEDICINAL CHEMISTS. MANY STUDIES HAVE REPORTED REGARDING THE BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF SCHIFF BASES, INCLUDING THEIR ANTICANCER, ANTIBACTERIAL, ANTIFUNGAL, AND HERBICIDAL ACTIVITIES.THE USE OF IMINES AS A SCHIFF BASE IN CONSTRUCTING HETEROCYCLIC RINGS HAS BEEN STUDIED INTENSIVELY IN RECENT YEARS AND THEIR OXIDATION WAS REPORTED WITH SEVERAL OXIDIZING AGENTS SUCH AS BUFFERED OXONE, UHP/MALEIC ANHYDRIDE SYSTEM, MOLECULAR OXYGEN IN THE PRESENCE OF TRANSITION-METAL COMPLEXES AND A NITRILE/HYDROGEN PEROXIDE SYSTEM.IN CONTINUATION OF OUR PREVIOUS WORK, WE STUDY HERE THE OXIDATION REACTIONS OF SCHIFF BASES OF ISATIN DRIVATIVES BY EMPLOYING OF A CONVENIENT OXIDANT. THE NEWLY SYNTHESIZED COMPOUNDS WERE CHARACTERIZED BY IR, 1H- AND 13C-NMR AND MASS SPECTRAL DATA.
