Abstract

Introduction: With respect to the importance of chronic PAIN ACCEPTANCE role on coping with CHRONIC PAIN in the elderly, the current study aimed to evaluate the association of chronic PAIN ACCEPTANCE, LIFE STYLE with pain, and restriction related CHRONIC PAIN in the elderly.Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical research, in which 200 elderly patients with CHRONIC PAIN were selected by multistage random sampling. Data were collected from Ahwaz health care centers, Iran, in 2014. Chronic PAIN ACCEPTANCE, LIFE STYLE with pain, and restriction related CHRONIC PAIN questionnaires were used for PAIN ACCEPTANCE, LIFE STYLE with pain and restriction related CHRONIC PAIN measurement, respectively. All of these questionnaires are standadrd instruments for elderlies. Independent t-test and linear regression by SPSS software (version 21) were conducted for data analysis.Results: There was a positive significant relationship in PAIN ACCEPTANCEs and LIFE STYLE with pain (P<0.001, B=0.41) as well as negative significant relationship between pains acceptances and restriction related CHRONIC PAIN (P<0.001, B=-0.15). Furthermore, a negative significant relationship between LIFE STYLE with pain and restriction related CHRONIC PAIN (P< 0.001, B=-0.43) was obtained.Conclusions: Elderlies with more PAIN ACCEPTANCE had better LIFE STYLEs with pain and lesser restrictions. Moreover, in the elderlies with better LIFE STYLEs with pain, lesser restrictions were observed. Therefore, application of acceptance-oriented treatments for effective pain management in the elderly is proposed.
