Abstract

 INTRODUCTIONFIELDSON [6] PROVIDES A DEFINITION THAT ECOLOGY IS THE RELATION OF PLANTS AND LIVING CREATURES TO EACH OTHER AND TO THEIR ENVIRONMENT. PIERANUNZI [20] HAS MENTIONED THAT HUMANS ARE FULLY DEPENDENT ON THE SERVICES THAT NATURAL SYSTEMS PROVIDE, HOWEVER DESIGNERS HAVE A ROLE IN FIRST PROTECTING THOSE SYSTEMS AND SECOND IN CREATING DESIGNS THAT MIMIC THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THOSE SYSTEMS. THE VALUE OF NATURAL AS WELL AS BUILT SYSTEMS TO STORE, CLEAN, AND DISTRIBUTE AVAILABLE FRESH WATER MUST ALSO BE RECOGNIZED.
