Abstract

Human resources are the most important human capital in organizations to achieve organizational goals. Absence from work due to illness or Sick leave or the hidden form of Absenteeism can reduce the productivity of human resources. The purpose of this study was to investigate Sick leave of Nurses based on the codes of International classification of diseases (ICD-10). This cross-sectional study was conducted in Imam Raza (AS) Hospital complex in Mashhad, Iran. The sampling method was from the whole population. Data analysis was carried out using IBM SPSS statistics V22 software. The results showed that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with (25. 7%), gynecology and obstetrics with (20. 7%) and diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue with (14. 9%) accounts for the largest proportion of Sick leave among Nurses. There was a significant association between the employment status and the reported sickness absence rate (P-Value= 0. 0. 26). However, there was no significant correlation between age, work experience, gender, marital status and the rate of absence due to illness. Based on the results of this study, paying attention to at-risk or high-risk groups, using appropriate human resource management procedures, and performing ergonomic interventions based on the type of disease, are considered absolutely necessary, especially during pandemics.
