Title

Relationships between Perceived Social Support and Self-Sufficiency with Psychological Well-Being in elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases: the Mediating Role of psychological capital

Abstract

 Introduction: Psychological well-being in the elderly had a strong and significant relationship with several factors, including social support and Self-sufficiency in different groups. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between Perceived social support and selfefficacy with Psychological well-being through the mediating role of Psychological capital in the elderly with Cardiovascular disease. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive correlation study and statistical population included all elderly men with Cardiovascular disease referred to the hospitals of Qazvin in 2019, which was performed by targeted sampling. A total of 230 people were selected and then answered to the four questionnaires of the Perceived social support scale of Zimet et al. 1998, the Self-sufficiency scale of Jalali et al. 2009, the psychological wellbeing scale 1989, and the Lutans Psychological capital Scale. Data were analyzed by regression analysis test and path analysis method using Amos software version 20 and SPSS software version 16. Results: The results of data analysis showed no significant relationship between Perceived social support and Self-sufficiency, but there is a significant relationship between Perceived social support and Psychological well-being and between Self-sufficiency and Psychological well-being of the elderly. Psychological capital does not play a mediating role between perceived support and Psychological well-being (β =0. 077), but acts as a mediator between Self-sufficiency and Psychological well-being (β =0. 14, t=41. 2). Conclusion: This study shows the effective role of Perceived social support and Self-sufficiency and Psychological capital in predicting the Psychological well-being of the elderly and it is recommended that be considered in psychological and counseling interventions to improve and promote the Psychological well-being of these people.
