Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Narrative therapy on Social adjustment and Loneliness in children with Physical and mobility impairment. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study using a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included all students with Physical and mobility impairment studying in elementary schools of Tehran, of whom 30 (16 girls and 14 boys) were selected using convenience sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 each). Data were collected using Sinha & Singh’ s Adjustment Inventory for School Students and Asher and Wheeler’ s Children’ s Loneliness Scale. First, a pre-test was administered to both groups. Then, the experimental group received Narrative therapy program for eight 45-minute sessions. After that, the post-test was administered to both groups. Results: The results of covariance analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the mean post-test scores of Social adjustment, emotional adjustment, educational adjustment, and Loneliness in the experimental and control groups, with a significant increase in Social adjustment, emotional adjustment, and educational adjustment and a significant decrease in Loneliness in the experimental group. Conclusion: The educational program of Narrative therapy can enhance Social adjustment, emotional adjustment, and educational adjustment and decrease Loneliness in children with Physical and mobility impairment.
