Background: Previous studies revealed that Vanadium complexes exhibit interesting biological properties. The goal of this study was to examine the antiproliferative and apoptosis induction virtue of some newly synthesized Schiff-base of vanadium (VOL Complex: C17H16N2O3V and C19H20N2O5V) on K562 leukemia cells.Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, the leukemia cells were cultured in RPMI medium in 25 and 400 mg/L concentration and they were incubated for 48 hours. The vital activity of cells was assessed by MTT method. Apoptosis induction percentage was measured in 12, 24 and 48 hours after encountering with 150, 250 and 350 mg/L concentrations of VOL Complex by Annexin-PI kit and flow cytometry Cell cycle analysis was performed in the 150 mg/L concentration at 24 hours with flow cytometry. Results: The MTT results showed that the K562 cells viability were sensitive to VOL complex in a concentration. dependent manner With increase in Schiff-base of vanadium concentration the survival percentages of K562 leukemia cells were decreased to 90, 85 and 80 percent. Encountering cells with VLO complex caused to induce apoptosis in relation with time and concentration. The highest apoptosis (34.11 percent) was happened in 350 mg/ml at 48 hours. Conclusion: This finding indicated that VOL complex, even in noncytotoxic dose, have just an apoptotic inducing effect and capable of arresting the affected cell in Go/G1 phase of cell cycle.

Background: Trauma is one of the causes of peripheral nerve injuries. Free radicals increase after tissue damages. Usually free radicals are scavenged and detoxified by antioxidants. In this study we assessed antioxidative role of NGAL (Neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin=Lipocalin2) molecule on crushed sciatic nerves of rats.Materials and Methods: In this study 40 rat's sciatic nerves were crushed and then at day 1 and 3 and week 1, 3, 5 after injury the sciatic nerve of rats which suffering crushed were extracted. First of all total mRNA of samples was extracted and then cDNA was synthesized. The expression of NGAL gene was confirmed by using semiquantitative RT-PCR analysis. For immunohistochemistry analysis, the samples were fixed in praformaldehyde and cut in 20 micrometer slices by cryostat. Results: The results showed that the expression of lipocalin 2 was significantly higher in day 1, day 3 and week 1 in crushed sciatic nerves in compare with the intact (non-injured) nerves (p<0.0001). Immunohistochemistry results also confirmed the protein expression of these genes. Conclusion: The sciatic nerve injuries cause oxidative stress which followed by crush injury. In this research NGAL molecule showed maximum up-regulation in degeneration process after injury when oxidative stress have maximum peak. In this project for the first time we demonstrated the role of this molecule in degeneration and regeneration process of peripheral nerves and with more studies it may suggest as new complemental treatment.

Background: Candida albicans is an important human pathogen that can causes systemic infections, predominantly among populations with weak immune systems. Candida spp. produces biofilms on synthetic materials such as catheter, which facilitates adhesion of the organisms to devices. Since the frequent replacement of these devices is difficult and expensive to achieve solutions for rapid identification and control of biofilm infections is essential. The purpose of this study is, the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles in the manufacture catheter and evaluation of its inhibitory effect in preventing of the biofilm formation.Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, the catheters in making poly vinyl chloride, Znonano particles with aconcentration 2.027mg/ml was used. Biofilms were formed over a series of time intervals (2, 4, 6, 8, 24 and 48 h). At each time interval, biofilm formation was measured with the XTT and biomass assay and concurrently assessed by light microscopy. Results: Results showed that catheters containing zinc oxide increases with time in cell density (absorbance increase) were lower than those without catheters. Similar results were also measured in dry weight. Conclusion: This study demonstrated antifungal activity of ZnO. therfor biofilm formation on medical equipment such as catheters, implants, dentures, artificial heart valves, etc can be inhibited by ZnO nanoparticles.

Abstract:

Sampling in qualitative and quantitative research are very different, because it aims, gaining a deep understanding of the phenomenon is being investigated, rather than generalizing the results. Participants Selection in the qualitative study is done with aim of achieve the maximum information about the phenomenon under study. In quantitative research there is too much emphasis on a random selection, an equal chance for selection of all members of the research community, but in the qualitative study samples or participants are selected or invited. Purposive sampling that also is called purposeful or qualitative sampling that means purposeful selection of samples for acquiring knowledge or information. This type of sampling does not focus on developing the fixed and immutable rules or generalizing the results but try to better understand the phenomenon in special field. Purposive sampling consists of three main types including "Sampling to Achieve Representativeness or Comparability", "Sampling Special or Unique Cases" and "Sequential Sampling". Saturation in qualitative research as a method of sampling is considered the gold standard. In this paper, we tried to introduce the participant's selection methods and the differences between quantitative and qualitative method and the strategy for decision making about data saturation will be offered.
