Introduction: The purpose of this study is to determine prevalence of smoking among soldier’s and related factors, in order to help prevention of its prevalence among Iranian soldiers.Method: the research method is descriptive-correlative. Statistic population includes Iranian duty soldiers who were in military service at the time of performing this study (2010-2011). The sample was selected by quota sampling method and total of 3920 soldiers were selected. Addiction screening questionnaire, Addiction severity Index (ASI), military duty status, and demographic questionnaire were used for data gathering.Results: current prevalence rate of smoking’ among soldiers has been reported 10.6% and with considering soldiers having consumption in the past, 22% of them have smoking experience. Factors that were associated with smoking among soldiers were included: duration of military duty, the amount of vacation hours per week, the number of days of absence, the number of escapes, total days of detention during the period of military duty, Loneliness, relationship with the commander and administer, relationship with the coevals, satisfaction of location of duty, class of duty location, duty status, type of punishment and employment status prior to duty.Discussion: prevalence of smoking among our soldiers (Iran) is less than its prevalence among total population of our country. However even this low rate of smoking among soldiers indicates risk of cigarette consumption in military organizations and intervention for reducing the rate of smoking in military organizations is necessary.
