Abstract:

Background & Aims: Electroconvulsive therapy is an effective method for many kinds of psyche disorders. This method is used when patients can’t tolerate drug side effects. Dizziness and sense confusion especially in the first 30 minutes after being conscious is a prevalent side effect of this therapy method. This study was aimed to investigate education effects on consciousness and cognitive status of electroconvulsive patients. Materials & Methods: This experimental study was done on 60 patients being treated with electroconvulsive for the first time. Conscious level of patients in 5, 15, 30, 60 minutes and their recognition status in the 15, 30, 60 minutes after electroconvulsive were compared. Data collection equipment was cognitive status standard questionnaire of MMSE and Glasgow Coma Scale. The data were analyzed by repeated measures, statistical tests, and t-test Results: There were not any meaningful differences in the consciousness and cognitive condition of two groups. However, cognitive status score was higher in cases than controls in the 60th minute. Conclusion: According to the results, before-shock-education had effects on the patients’ cognitive condition. Patients who had education before electroconvulsive therapy about causes and benefits of using this method, execution method, and temporary symptoms had better cognitive condition. Therefore for reducing symptoms after electroconvulsive therapy it is necessary to have suitable education before.

Abstract:

Background & Aims : One of the factors in evaluating health care quality is assessing treatment satisfaction of patient with type Õ diabetes. This study was aimed to investigate the relationship between health locus of control, memory and physician-patient relationship with satisfaction of treatment.Materials & Methods: In this correlation study 115 patients with type Õ diabetes, who referred to Tabriz Sina hospital in June-August 2010, were included. The samples filled the following five questionnaires: demographic questions, patient-doctor relationship questionnaire (PDRQ-19), patient satisfaction questionnaire (PSQ-18), prospective and retrospective memory questionnaire (PRMQ), and multidimensional health locus of control (MHLC). The data were analyzed through Pearson’s correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis methods. Results: The results indicated that there was a positive significant relation between external health locus of control and desired physician- patient relationship with satisfaction of treatment in patients with type Õ diabetes. However, the findings indicated no significant association between memory with satisfaction of treatment. In addition, physician-patient relationship had a significant power for prediction of treatment satisfaction. Conclusion: These results support the idea that patients with type Õ diabetes who had external health locus of control and desired relationship with their physicians were more satisfied with the treatment. Finally, desired physician- patient relationship potentially leads to better satisfaction of the treatment.
