The ever growing population, usages development, economy, and personal vehicle possession in cities have increased trip demand and hence, traffic volume has resulted in not only an increase in delay time at junctions, an important part of urban routes, but also the trip time.In this research, considering the unfavorable effects of increase in delay time on the traffic conditions, environment, and fuel consumption, delay time reduction at junctions is investigated. To do this, the standards and codes applied in Iran to design traffic lights are introduced and reviewed at the beginning. Next, implementing Synchro, a simulating software, the traffic conditions of Tehran is simulated. Then, using the common codes in Iran, the signal timing in the under-studied junctions is obtained and the results are introduced to the software. Eventually, a sensitivity analysis is performed to recognize the most suitable code and formulas for Iran’s (Tehran) traffic condition. The coefficients applied in the best code’s formulas are then calibrated, considering the actual traffic condition of the city resulting in a decrease in delay time and increase in LOS of the junctions.
