The present research, using scientometric method, studies the growth rate, and identifies and introduces the effective scientific productions of land Iranian authors in the field of social sciences in the period 1990-2006 as are available in Web of Science database. The total number of scientific works indexed in Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) in the period studied, were extracted and analyzed. Also, using the HistCite software, attempt was made to draw the social sciences map and identify the effective papers and authors in the period under investigation in the same database. Research results indicated that the scientific production of Iranian authors in the field of social sciences in the period 1990- 2006 in SSCI follows an ascending trend, with some fluctuations in the years 2004 to 2006. Iranian authors' works are mostly journal articles, and then, seminar papers. Also, it was clear that Iranian scientists were more active in the field of psychology. Psychologists made three scientific clusters in addition to production of effective works. Iranian scientists were seemingly less active in other fields of social sciences. It is worth mentioning that mentioning that' the total number of authors cited in Social Sciences were very low as compared to that of authors in Sciences.

In this article attempt was made to study the scientific productions of Iranian scientific-research institutions in ISI Web of Science database in a 10-year period from 1997 to 2006, in three groups: universities, research institutions, and other institutions; and to compare the difference between these three groups in terms of quantitative and qualitative indicators. Research results indicated that based on qualitative indicators such as citation, impact factor, and percentage of citied documents, there was no significant difference among the three groups, while universities were in a more desirable situation in terms of quantitative indicators of production. In other words, no significant relationship was seen between the type of institution and other variables such as qualitative variables of citation, impact factor, and percentage of cited documents; while, there is a significant relationship between the same variable and· quantitative variable of production rate. Among the most probable important reasons are the quality and quantity of manpower employed in the universities who are usually in a mentioning that the total number of authors cited in Social Sciences were very low as compared to that of authors in Sciences.

The aim of this article is to identify the ways in which innovative ideas, methods and suggestions are presented in the university libraries of Fars Province, as well as to identify the relational patterns governing the same institutions. Six objectives and 6 research questions were observed. A sample of 110 male and female librarians was selected randomly from the whole population of university librarians in Fars province. Data was collected by means of a survey which was devised for the purpose of this study, the reliability of which was tested by calculation of Cronbach's Alpha and validity was examined using item analysis method. Both aspects proved satisfactory. Descriptive statistics as well as one-sample t-test were used for data analysis. Results of the survey revealed that libraries under study were less welcoming and encouraging innovative ideas and suggestions. It was revealed that library managers were also less encouraging the library staff for innovative suggestions. Also, non-participative and top-down bureaucratic patterns of management governed the libraries. Therefore, it seemed that librarians were not willing to be innovative. However, innovative ideas would have a positive impact on reduction of library costs and would improve the quality of services, if observed. Also, it seemed that Shiraz Industrial University, Payame-Noor University and Islamic Azad University, with a more dynamic pattern of participative and team-based management, possessed and enjoyed a more innovative structure than the other two.

The similar and dissimilar aspects of basic vocabulary and concepts in Scientometrics and Informetrics were surveyed in this research using the analytical and library methodology. First, the existence of the vocabulary and conceptual problems in all fields of knowledge, including library and information science, and the necessity of paying attention to these problems were stated. Historical path of the evolution of concepts of Bibliometrics, Scientometrics, and Informetrics was traced in international conferences. Emphasis on similarities and dissimilarities was traced in related literature on the origin, methodology, subject scope and realm, generality and specificity, type of information carrier being studied, basic points of focus, and obvious distinctions between Scientometrics and Informetrics and presentation of the combined title of "Scientometrics and Informetrics"· was studied as a solution. Based on contemplation of concept of knowledge in library and information science as an embodied, recorded and objective science, and evidence from the evolution in paradigms in favor of hegemony of "science" concept as the dominant paradigm in our world, it is argued that the new concept of "Knowledgemetrics", is more representing the present conditions, requirements, and current paradigms. It, at least, covers the former concepts as a general term and formalizes their distinctive aspects.

One of the most important problems in the area of Information dissemination and usage is the quality of information seeking and information access. This problem caused information science authorities investigate different information seeking methods and draw models with taking advantage of theoretical bases in psychology, sociology and communication theories. Perception of access information method has a fundamental role in designing information systems and also in presenting appropriate services to users. Ellis' information seeking model is one of the well-known models of this type. This model has been revised by different researchers in recent years. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the "Methods of Scientific and Technical Information Access" by experts and researchers in NIOC (National Iranian Oil Company) on the basis of eight characteristics of Ellis's model. NIOC experts and researchers have key role in improvement industrial expansion. Some suggestions presented on the basis of findings.

In automatic extracted indexing, as an indexing method, especially in search engines, the process of extracting words and phrases representing the text content is done By computer which is based on word frequency. Despite its effectiveness, automatic extracted indexing has some notable problems and faults in information retrieval. Some solutions such as word weighting, assigning limitation range for word frequency and using assigned indexing as a complement are presented. Users of web-based Persian information encounter some problems in retrieving required information from Persian websites which results in inaccessibility to all websites and information. Some solutions are presented such as designing a Persian intelligent interface on the Web to decrease the false drops caused by indexing process of Persian websites.

The idea of production of the functional requirements patterns began in 1990. The functional requirements for bibliographic records pattern was the first conceptual pattern made to organize the bibliographic data in catalogs and databases. In designing such a pattern, attempt has been made to solve the problems encountered in the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR) by presenting new structures for storage and display of bibliographic records. Then, IFLA different work groups were set up to produce three other patterns for functional requirements: authoritative data, subject authority records, and object-oriented bibliographic records, that although each has its own specifications, all have been formed according to the first pattern. The purpose of the present paper is to introduce the IFLA functional requirements patterns, their history of development, specifications, structures and functions, as well as to study their pros and cons.
